Fan Art Friday 2/26/10 GRINCHA at DeviantART.com

This week we are so pleased to present the exceptional art work of Grincha at DeviantART.com. Grincha has an amazing portfolio of colorful and vibrant art that isn't just Disney related. She has a few different galleries of Disney fan art including an entire set dedicated to Disney villains. I think my favorites are the battle between Maleficent and Jafar and the awesome portrait of Monstro! Some Fan Art is good, but the entire of body of work done by Grincha is beautiful and really quite remarkable and definitely worth your time to check out. Make sure you see all the art work she has to offer on her DeviantART page and make sure you tell her that DisFanReview sent you! -Admiral Duke

Website Of the Week 2/25/09 People of the Park

Inside all of us lies a bit of a people watcher. Where else better to people watch than the Disney Parks during a break in the vacation chaos? I've done it. I'm sure we all have. Now, have you ever seen someone wearing something so strange that wondered what they could have been thinking. Well, that's what People Of The Park.com is all about. Now, some might find this scrap book of social faux pas to be offensive. Some will find this collection of questionable decorum and taste hilarious. What ever your opinion of People Of The Park.com you will find that it is without a doubt an honest representation of the strager side of the Disney Parks experience. -Admiral Duke

Disney Parks Blog Leaves Sticky Mickey Reminder to Volunteer

Disney Parks Blog is one of Disney's best en devours in recent years. A website whose entire existence is to get you excited about all the goings on at the Disney Parks. Proving this to be true once again, they have released this AWESOME video called "Mickey Notes" which is supposed to serve as a sticky note reminder to get out and volunteer during Disney's Give A Day Get A Disney Day Promotion. What is so great about this video is that it is yet another example of the fine quality of videos that can be found on the Disney Parks Blog. Notable recent entries include the "Tilt Shift" videos, that make Disney parks look like giant toy playsets and the recent video of the Worlds largest canned food structure at Walt Disney World.

Flynn Lives.com Countdown Reveals Details for International TRON:Legacy Event

A couple weeks ago we told you about the Binary Countdown that was taking place at Flynn Lives.com/ZeroHour. Underneath the 80's style graphic countdown was a list of 27 international cities. On Feb.24th the countdown ended and Fans from the 2cities were urged to find their local "Contact" and get a code. Then those codes were entered on the website. Each code revealed an image on a large grid. Each image was from the 1st TRON film. When that image was clicked it was revealed to be a small peice of a puzzel. When the entire mosaic was complete, this NEW image from TRON:Legacy was the result.

But, that wasn't all. A NEW website, PitCell.com was revealed, as well as details for a fan exclusive event that will take place on Saturday, February 27th 2010 in New York, Los Angeles, London, Toronto, Sydney. Presumably, this is an International Premiere for the new full length TRON:Legacy trailer that was promised to hit before March 2010. If you live in one of these five cities make sure to visit PitCell.com for further information. -Admiral Duke

Random Notes 2/23/10 Pirates 4 & Tangled News.

Pirates 4 Casting News

Looks like thing are finally starting to take shape for Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides. It was just announced that Penelope Cruz will be Jack Sparrow's love interest and companion in the film, and today equally big news... Ian McShane, best known for his work on the HBO series DEADWOOD will be playing the films villain, Blackbeard! Rob Marshall is set to direct. Terry Rossio and Ted Elliot wrote the script based on the book "On Stranger Tides" By Tim Powers. Jerry Bruckheimer is of course back on board to produce. Look for a lot more news to come down about this fan favorite. Pirates Of The Caribbean 4: On Staranger Tides sets sail, Summer 2011.

Leaked Rapunzel/Tangled Trailer

Disney's upcoming Digitally animated Rapunzel...Which was recently retitled Tangled is due out later this fall, and while we have yet to see much from the film other than concept art, We were able for a short time to wet our appetites. There was a leaked trailer for the film, which consists largely of storyboards. It was the first look most of us have had of this film. I cant really tell if the pirated copy of the trailer is the reason I have a bad feeling or if I am just not(YET) excited by what I have seen... I hope Disney will soon put forward something to get me more excited about this film. -Admiral Duke

Captain EO Returns to Disneyland

Today marks the momentous return of the Disneyland classic, Captain EO. Fans will be packing in to the Tomorrowland theater to experience this retro treat. And all the while some people, like myself, are still going to scratch their heads and wonder why Disney decided to bring this dated and very last generation special effects film back to Disneyland. But, I guess this video kind of explains it all, Bringing back Captain EO is all about the fans, and reliving their memories of the late pop icon, Michael Jackson and the Captain EO attraction. MouseWait.com reported via their Twitter page that several people began lining up for Captain EO at 1am pacific time. Of course it's also about creating NEW memories for a new generation...And some would argue that in that respect bringing back Captain EO is in keeping with the same spirit as bringing back Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln to Disneyland.

For those of you can't make it to Disneyland during Captain EO's limited run, we present to you, The entire Captain EO film in HD quality, unfortunately no 3-D or 4-D effects, but still a fun viewing experience for Michael Jackson and Disneyland enthusiasts alike.

Now, If you enjoyed that you might want to experience Captain EO in 3D!!! Well circa 1986 anyway. Just dig out a pair of those antiquated RED/CYAN(blue) 3D glasses, and check out the retro 3D effect in these video's. -Admiral Duke

Video Madness 2/22/10 Alice In Wonderland

This past Friday Disney threw a gigantic fan bash for Alice in Wonderland in Hollywood, CA. The entire thing was attended by the films stars and was broadcast live on Ustream.com. The event was attended by tons of rabid Alice fans many of whom had found out about the event from social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. The fans dressed in costumes of their favorite characters and helped to prove how effective the Disney publicity machine can be.
Live video chat by Ustream

Attendees of the event were able to veiw clips from the film, including this one...

And, surely it was mere coincidence that on that same day this viral trailer/behind the scenes video hit the net with new interview snippets and chunks of footage not yet seen... BUT overall, this video is a lot like every other trailer or commercial that we have seen. -Admiral Duke

Video Madness 2/17/10

Magic City Mayhem has begun a new series entitled "MCM4x4" the best description I can come up with, without explaining the entire video is best summed up by Mikey himself, in his latest "tweet" from Twitter.com, "4 Disney Parks by 4:00pm! Could it be done? Can @JustMikeyHRC do it? There are rules! Here is part 1 of his adventure! http://bit.ly/c7QOnU"

Here is the new video for Avril Lavignes song Alice(Underground)from the album "Almost Alice." Now, i was hoping for some new footage from the film, but alas, there is none, at least not as far as i can tell. Its okay i guess.Avril plays like Alice, lip syncs badly, and someone cleverly edited footage of Johnny Depp making funny faces as the Mad Hatter...but thats really it.

FLASHMOB: "A large group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, perform an unusual and pointless act for a brief time, then quickly disperse."
LIGHTSABRE FLASHMOB:"Wicked Cool, and Awesome Fun!!!"
Thanks to the Star Wars Blog and their constant twitter updates for this one. -Admiral Duke

New York Toy Fair 2010

Toy Fair got one heck of a kick off this week as Disney/Pixar Legend John Lasseter and Toy Story 3 Director Lee Unckrich were on hand for a huge celebration that coincided with Lasseter receiving a LEGO likeness of himself. There were tons of Toy Story 3 offerings including new Potato Heads and new characters from the film. Disnology.com has some great coverage of all that went down. Also, Momlogic.com has great interview with Lee Unckrich about Toy Story 3 and Toy Fair. Meanwhile the good folks over at Star Wars have a lot to show off from Toy Fair too. They even have their own Flickr page stuffed full of beautiful images including a FINALLY being produced Boba Fett with firing missle and an ultra detailed SUPER AT-AT.

The BLACK PEARL Arrives in Oahu, Hawaii

Jack Sparrow's on again, off again gig as captain of the Black Pearl appears to be on again, as the most feared pirate ship of the seven seas pulled into Kalaeloa Harbor in Oahu early Sunday morning. Pirates of the Caribbean 4 is set to begin filming this summer. Watch the video of the Black Pearls arrival at HawaiianNewsNow.com.

Flynn Lives.com "Zero Hour" counts down to TRON:Lagacy trailer

Numerous entertainment outlets are reporting that the wierd 80's style video game image that seems to be rearranging itself at FlynnLives.com/ZeroHour is actually a binary clock that is counting down to Feb. 24th 2010 at 2:30pm ET, when according, to those numerous sources a full length trailer for TRON:Legacy will be released. FlynnLives.com is actually a mock website(created by Disney) that is "dedicated" to missing Video Game genius Kevin Flynn(Jeff Bridges) who was the creator of the game Tron and the fictional protagonist in the original TRON film.

"Almost Alice" Widget

As we rapidly approach the March 5th Release of "Alice in Wonderland" Disney is pulling out all the stops as they heavily promote all things releated to the film. Including the Soundtrack/Tribute album "Almost Alice" by releasing this clever widget that streams samples of every track on the album! The album sounds pretty good and definitely gets us excited to see the film. Make sure to check back March 5th for our Review of the film.

Toy Story 3 American & U.K. Trailers

THIS IS IT! This isn't a sneak peek or a clip from... No, this is the brand new, full length, and FINAL Trailer for Toy Story 3. AND not just one version but TWO!!! The first is the U.S. version, the second is the version posted at Disney Studios UK on YouTube. Click play and enjoy each of them, and pay close attention to the variation between the two. Then watch them over and over repeatedly until June 18th when the film will be released to theaters. Now after watching this trailer several times a couple things stand out to me. FIRST, the toys of Sunnyside seem happy to have "New Toy's" but as you watch, they seem to be happy because its the new toys that get used and abused. SECOND, Mrs. Potato Head can see into Andy's room because she left her eye behind. THIRD, when Woody is careening off a cliff in the train, is it me or does that look like the Disneyland train? FOURTH, in the UK version of the trailer Ken has a major hang up about being called a "girl toy." Of course, both versions of the trailer leave you with one important question, How the heck, Did Mr. Potato Head become Mr. Pickle Head?

Disney World's 2010 STAR WARS WEEKENDS Dates & Logo Released

Disney Parks blog announced the schedule for this summers Star Wars Weekends at Walt Disney World. The dates will be May 21-23, May 28-30, June 4-6, June 11-13. No news yet on the which Star Wars celebrities will be on hand for this years events but they did release this great new logo for the event. I love that we get to see Jedi Mickey square off against Boba Fett, but why does Fett only have 4 fingers on each hand? He is a humanoid, and even if he is fighting a cartoon Mouse, HE is still supposed to have FIVE fingers on each hand... But maybe I am just nit picking. -Admiral Duke

Now, Disney Pin collecting is a very individual hobby. Some people want to collect them all. Some only collect the ones that represent their specific interest. I fall into the latter category. I have very specific tastes when it comes to Disney pins, I want my collection to reflect who I am and what I am interested in and involved with. being a Disney blogger I visit the Disney Parks Blog on a daily basis. They always have great little tid bits and fun and interesting videos. But, more to the point it would be a badge of honor that I would wear proudly as a member of the Disney blogosphere... Unfortunately these pins are not for sale. they will be distributed to cast members and at Disney parks events. For more details, visit the Disney Parks Blog.

Well the upcoming Muppet Movie has just been given a new title. The original title "The Cheapest Muppet Movie Ever" has been changed to "The Greatest Muppet Movie of All Time." which really is a much better title anyway. In other Muppet news, The Muppet's Studio on YouTube posted a new video this week that features everybody's favorite mistreated Lab Assistant, Beaker.

Video Madness 2/7/10 Disney's Super Bowl 44 Ads

As promised, here are Disney's offerings to the Supper bowl Ad blitz. The first is the culmination of Disney's cross network ad campaign for Alice in Wonderland. Over the last couple weeks Disney has been airing a "First Look" commercial on ABC, ABC Family, and ESPN. This trailer doesn't have much more footage than previous ads for the film, but there is a really cool Dragon in it. Alice In Wonderland hits theaters on March 5th. Stay tuned to DisFanReview.com, We will have our review of that film as soon as it drops.

All the chicks dig Jake Gyllenhaal. And there is plenty of him in this trailer for Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. Of course this ad did air during the Super Bowl. the Super Bowl is all about football, Right? Well guy's like football, and they like action. Of course they also dig the hot female co-star, Gemma Arterton. There's a little of her in this ad too.

Last and certainly not least is the annual tradition of the Super Bowl winner(In this case it's New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees.) exclaiming "I'm Going to Disney World!" -Admiral Duke

Random Notes 2/6/10

It's almost impossible to explain to the younger Star Wars fans what the dark times were like. The 17 years of virtual abandonment by George Lucas, believing that the epic trilogy was over and would never return. Waiting blindly not knowing what to expect in those horribly lonely days between Return of the Jedi and Phantom Menace. This generation is spoiled. They have a weekly animated television series. they have had 4 motion pictures in theaters in their short spoiled little life times( The Prequel trilogy & the Clone Wars film). Where, We, the forgotten generation, had to spend our entire adolescent years wondering why George Lucas forgot about us and if he would ever crawl out of his hole and grace us with his presence and FINALLY release us from the bitter Star Wars drought. Did he make it easy on us? No. He teased us with crappy Ewok movies, and poorly produced animated fair such as the Ewoks(again) and the Droids cartoon, which I guess wasn't all that bad, but it wasn't no CLONE WARS! And then what did he go and do? In 1997 he tried to erase our collective memories of the original trilogy and released the "Special Edition" that tried to re-tell among other things, That Jabba the Hutt can walk, The streets of Tattoine are filled with slap-schticky droids and creatures, and that Greedo shot at Han Solo first. But, then 1999 came around and he brought to us a new Trilogy. The generation that had survived the dark times, didn't really care about the idiocy of Jar Jar Binks, or the truly creepy age difference between Padmae and Anakin. We were just glad to have Star Wars back. But, you know. Now that we think about it, and now that we have seen all the Star Wars riches that you've lauded upon the current generation. We, the original Children of Star Wars have a bone to pick with you George. Consider yourself served.

So, In short, that is what the upcoming film "The People vs. George Lucas" is about. Fans who still have a deep love for all things Star Wars, but still have a big chip on their shoulders towards George. I can't wait to see it.

I have worked the 3rd shift for years. I always like the idea of being up while the world is asleep. It's just a time of day that I have always really enjoyed working. This week the Disney Parks Blog posted their week in review recap. In it they featured a really cool behind the scenes look at the 3rd shift at Disneyland. These are my kind of Cast Members.

Ain't It Cool News is reporting that Disney Studio execs are so excited about the upcoming release of TRON LEGACY that there are plans in the works for a TRON:LEGACY television show that would most likely air on Disney XD. Here is what Ain't It Cool News had to say.
...apparently (Disney) the top brass is so psyched about Tron: Legacy that they'e planning a TV show for 2011 & 2012 (probably for Disney XD). No news on whether it will be animated or live action. They're also already planning another Tron film for 2013.
Of course, if Legacy bombs at the BO, this will all get cancelled ASAP. But, right now, they're really behind it.

Ain't It Cool News is also reporting that a new TRON trailer that clocks in at 2 and a half minutes will be seen before Alice in Wonderland when it hits theatres March 5th. TRON:Legacy is due out in December.

So, as you may know When Dr. Facilier is here in Random Notes, you know he has something good on the menu. This week you have to do some 'detective work' to find this special treat. Find the hidden 'toon' of the good doctor himself, somewhere here on this page, and follow him to the 'other side' where he has one 'hare raising' treat for you. But remember these treats don't last long, so check it out by MIDNIGHT Feb 8th 2010. After that Dr. Facilier will disappear and his treats along with him.

Fan Art Friday 2/5/10 Orphaned Fan Art

One thing we love here at DisFanReview is to find great fan art. One thing we hate, is when we can not give credit to the amazing artist(s) who created it. First of all We are still trying to ascertain the origin of this amazing piece which we featured a couple weeks ago. The image depicts all the Disney Princess' as their diabolical villains. Great image, but we have no idea who created it.

Back in the day, I was a huge Punk Rock fan. I played bass in a Punk band, I had a mohawk. So, I was really excited to find this piece and was eager to feature it on Fan Art Friday, only problem is I have no idea who created it! I would love to laud praise upon the artistic genius who laid pen to paper... but yeah. If I have a complaint about this image though, it is this; If Mickey was a punk rocker, I happen to think that his highly American sensibilities would lead him to be a Ramones fan more so than a Sex Pistols fan. But, that is just my observation. -Admiral Duke

Random Notes 2/04/10

So this morning Variety is reporting that Disney is moving forward with a sequel to it's 2007 breakout hit "Enchanted." The film earned $340.5 million worldwide and $127.8 million domestically, Which has lead Disney to believe that a sequel would be quite lucrative. It is not yet certain who from the original cast will be returning, but multiple sources have indicated that all of the original cast is under contract for sequels. What is known, for now, is that producers Barry Josephson and Barry Sonnenfeld, will be on board for the sequel. The movie will be written by Jessie Nelson and directed by Anne Fletcher (The Proposal, 27 Dresses).

Admiral Duke joins CoveringTheMouse.com as guest contributor

This week I was asked by the good folks over at CoveringTheMouse.com to contribute an article about a song that gets frequent airplay on "Rope Drop!" DisFanReview's morning show(9am ET/6am PT) and The DisFanReview show(7pm ET/4pm PT), both air on ReedyCreekradio.com. You may have heard it. We were very humbled to be considered for such a cool opportunity and indeed hope that you will click on over to www.coveringthemouse.com and check out the full article, while listening to this awesome song. -Admiral Duke

random notes 2/2/10

So the folks at Disney/Pixar should be feeling pretty good after the exceptional showing of UP! during the 2009 Oscar nominations. The film garnered 5 total nominations, that is the best showing for a Disney film since 1991 when Beauty and the Beast received 6 nominations.
UP! Received nominations for Best Original Score, Sound Editing, Best Original Screenplay, Best Animated Feature and Best Picture. While these five nominations are a really big deal for Disney, especially the unexpected nod for Best Picture, The folks over at Pixar had better not count there chickens before they have hatched, because there is a fox in the proverbial hen house. Director Wes Anderson's adaptation of Roald Dahls Fantastic Mr. Fox is in a position to spoil the night for UP! Oscar voters seem to have a soft spot in their hearts for the witty and slightly avant garde style of Anderson who has only had a shot at an Oscar once with 2001's The Royal Tenenbaums. Voters may see this as their opportunity to give Anderson the accolades he deserves. While most might just dismiss this observation as editorial slop, don't forget that Oscar voters are well aware of and do respect the artistic power that Pixar wields and will probably be betting on a quality outing from them with their forthcoming Toy Story 3. That might be enough for Oscar voters to say, "Well I am going to vote for MR. FOX for Best Animated Feature, because Pixar will be back next year with TS3." Keep in mind this isn't a prediction so much as a situation I feel I've seen before... -Admiral Duke

So now the Pre-Super Bowl ads for Alice in Wonderland are really starting to flow out. here is the first that was shown on ABC Family a couple nights ago. keep in mind all of these ads are leading up to a huge ad to be shown during SUPER BOWL 44 on Feb. 7th.

Video Madness 2/1/10

In this weeks Video Madness we begin with a video that has nothing to do with Disney. This is video from Hard Rock Cafe Orlando and it comes to us from our good buddies at Magic City Mayhem. Here you have video of the ROCK WALL. an interactive database of all the Rock memorabilia at the Hard Rock cafe. I could explain the whole video but then what would be the point of that?

So surely you have heard that with the next Muppets movie, Disney wants to really bring the characters up to date and make them more relevant with today's audiences. Maybe we are lucky that they didn't go this route. this Pulp Fiction trailer was made by 416 Films and really changes the whole feel of Pulp Fiction, and adds a weird element to an already weird film.

A few years back MTV2 had an interesting show called "Video Mods" where the actual digital models from video games were manipulated to make music videos. in this wild vid we have the cast of characters from the STAR WARS prequels jamming out to Franz Ferdinand's "Take Me Out." Watch out for the Dark Lord. -Admiral Duke

Random Notes 2/01/10

So, The news is in... The new Muppet movie will be directed by "Flight of the Conchords" co-creator, James Bobin. Which makes an already interesting situation, VER VERY interesting, as the script for the film was written by Jason Segel and Nicolas Stoller the duo who wrote "Forgetting Sarah Marshall." Obviously Disney is looking to keep the Muppet's relevant in hiring a creative team with such wacky and inventive resumes. If you are not familiar with "Flight of the Conchords," it's an HBO comedy about two guys from New Zealand who live in New York City. Did I mention that they sing really wacky and strange songs as well? Well, here is one of them, in a hilarious scene directed by James Bobin. Surely he can get the same kind of laughs with the Muppet's.

Disney Parks just released images of some of the "sweet" gift ideas that will be available during the "Valentines" season at Disney Parks, including these ridiculously sweet Purple and Red Vinylmation figures. Aint they sweet? Okay, enough of that. you can read more about these and other Valentines Day gifts at the Disney Parks Blog.

So last week we told you about Walt Disney Studios India announcing their first Live Action film, Zokkomon. We also promised that as soon as we found the trailer we would post it here, So here it is!
